Last Friday we had the pleasure of having a stall at the Keep it Local event at Coolings Garden centre. This event is very close to our hearts as we have been attending it since 2012 when it began.
If you have read my previous blog (The history of The Kentish Soap Company) you may already know that I was just 16 when we started. This event was one of my first and I have always loved it. The event managers, Anne and Sally have always been so kind and welcoming which as a shy teen always made me feel at ease.
When we first attended this event it was in a lecture room in the garden centre with about 15 stalls. It may have been small but we did amazingly and the atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. Now the events have become so popular they have moved into the new events glasshouse which allows them to have a lot more stalls.
The stalls are all locally made and unique. The people who attend these fairs as stall holders are all incredibly talented. Examples of the amazing things you'd find at the Keep it Local craft shows are homemade cards, creative pottery, glass art, nature photography, beautiful jewellery and loads of other artistic creations.
It's not just the amazing craft fair or fantastic people that makes me love this event so much. Coolings Garden centre, the host of this Keep it Local event, is an award winning garden centre that has been running at Rushmore Hill since 1990. The new event room is located next to Arthur's Cafe which is another place that I hold close to my heart. I have many memories of coming here with both my grandparents and parents as a child. It was always a fun afternoon out that often ended with an ice cream or piece of cake (especially when my nan or grandad where the ones who had taken me). Even to this day my grandparents will often visit us when we are at the event and treat me to a drink and a piece of cake which is always a highlight. I mean cake is always going to be the best part of any day. Grandparents are the best!
We have met some amazing people at these events and have made friends for life. Many of our customers have become regulars and we are always happy to see them.
Pop along to the next event to see all the unique stalls yourself!
